The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released ten new hymns for its forthcoming collection, Hymns — for Home and Church, on July 23, 2026, per the church's newsroom. The release brings hymns available in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French to eighty-two, part of a phased rollout that began in 2024, with the printed hymnbook due in 2027.
The batch ranges across four centuries of hymnody. Alongside newer Latter-day Saint texts, the list includes Isaac Watts's When I Survey the Wondrous Cross (1707), To God Be the Glory by Fanny Crosby (1875), Great Is Thy Faithfulness by Thomas Chisholm (1923), and the Victorian Fight the Good Fight — Protestant standards entering a collection whose previous 1985 hymnbook drew more narrowly on the church's own canon.
The titles are these: Peace, Peace, Be Still; Great Is Thy Faithfulness; Isaiah Said; Fight the Good Fight; It's Joyful to Live the Gospel; To God Be the Glory; Speak to Us, Lord; The Miracle; What God Calls Us To; and When I Survey the Wondrous Cross. In the same release, twelve hymns each were added in German, Korean and Tagalog. The songs appear first in the church's Gospel Library app, then in congregational use as local units learn them.
The release quoted ordinary members rather than leaders: a Provo music coordinator, Mateus Rangel, said there is power in music and that the new hymns speak simple truths about Christ; students in Japan described the music as modern and quickly familiar. Earlier 2026 batches of ten, eleven and — on February 26 — twelve Old Testament-themed hymns timed to the church's Come, Follow Me study curriculum, mark the cadence: a global hymnal assembled in public, a few songs at a time.
Why a hymnal release is institutional news: a hymnbook is a denomination's most widely held doctrinal artifact. Every revision redistributes what a congregation sings — and therefore what it memorizes — and the choices cut both ways, as churches that have revised hymnals in recent decades have learned in arguments over language, authorship and theology. The Latter-day Saint revision is notable for its method as much as its content: publishing in batches, in dozens of languages, before committing the collection to print, a church of some seventeen million members is effectively beta-testing its own hymnody.
